Objectives
To assure and improve the quality level of physical and mental health in ex-smokers and people who want to give up tobacco, achieving also a better knowledge and information in the field of physiotherapy. This will be achieved by the establishment and implementation of the necessary guide exercises programme at European level, which would permit the creation of specific exercises focused on smoking cessation in these vulnerable groups that can be applied everywhere.
To promote the efficient use of medical resources at the European level by promoting physical exercises among both target groups, which means improving their physical health, and therefore their mental health and quality of life. National Health Systems will save money through the prevention and consequent reduction of the number of ill smokers. The lower the number of smokers, the fewer the number of passive smokers and the less the costs of treatment against tobacco addiction.
To guarantee the fulfilment of the requirements of the EU Public Health Programme throughout the project to assure an efficient decision-making process and to promote health and prevent disease through addressing health determinants across all policies and activities.

The first specific objective is collecting best practices in the field of physical activity for promoting smoking cessation and avoiding weight gain when quitting smoking and the associated mental problems in Europe.
The second specific objective is to study different practices in the European Union Member States in the field of physical activity to encourage smoking cessation and more healthy lifestyles and to create a guide exercises programme at the European level.
The third specific objective is to disseminate this information as widely as possible to promote physical activities and improve health and reduce morbidity due to tobacco as health determinants. Making this information widely known is absolutely essential for the success of the project.

Once the guide exercise programme has been approved by the partners, an European Presentation Conference will take place in Brussels followed by a workshop. The Presentation will be focused on European and National Authorities, European Level representatives of Health Care professionals, the media in order to disseminate widely the guide and its tools. The project target groups will be informed about this conference and the workshop. Over 300 participants are expected at each. Flyers and explanatory CD-ROMs will be created containing the guides and information about the project tools. The workshop will involve those who developed the guide exercise programme to demonstrate it in a practical way to interested parties, health care professionals, patients representatives, the general public and the media.
Presentations will also be made to the European Health Forum and High Level Group in Brussels and, if possible, an exhibition will be organised in the European Parliament.
Dissemination of the project will also be carried out through the partners. As the partners are the national associations of their countries, dissemination of the project will be undertaken by presentations to the target groups in their own countries as well as national authorities, national-level health care professional representatives, the target groups, the general public and the media. Educational material for the partners will be prepared to be used in their countries.
Dissemination of the project will be focused basically on three key groups because they are the principal actors in smoking prevention and cessation. These groups are, firstly, smokers, ex-smokers and people who want to give up; secondly; European National health authorities; and finally professionals in the field of physiotherapy, universities of physical therapy and health care networks.
